“I thought I told you that we won’t stop, I thought I told you that we won’t stop.”

- Puff Daddy (a.k.a Diddy) from 112’s “Only You”)

See, the last time I talked Yahoo! Music Jukebox, I told you we’re committed to cranking out performance and stability improvements to this young product. In fact, we call it Qprm! That’s QPRM – Quality, Performance, Reliability, Maintainability. Say it loud, say it proud: Qprm!

Why Qprm? Because everyone I talk to about Yahoo! Music Jukebox just wants it to work better, work faster, get everything in it now to be solid before adding any new features. So, that’s what we’re hammering on. 2.0.1 was a step in that direction. YMJ 2.0.2 is another – and it was released today.

Some of my favorite things about this release:

Better management of the “working set.” This is the big memory number that shows up when you look in Task Manager. Since YMJ uses both IE and WMP for some functions, this is still not a svelte number, but we’ve heard the complaints and are getting better about how we use your RAM.

Crossfade works for everyone again! Never shoulda let this one go, but we fixed it.

A lot of the dreaded Fatal Exceptions are history, thanks to some improved code management.

Proper shutdown of the executable when you close it. This was a silent killer for some people causing problems re-opening YMJ.

Improved CPU performance when starting YMJ for users with a lot of playlists. We found a better way to grab your playlists from the server when starting up, making launching YMJ slightly less painful.

And, on it goes. Over 80 other bugs were knocked out in Yahoo! Music Jukebox 2.0.2 as well. I hope you give this release a try and let me know what you think. I know we haven’t fixed everything, so let me know what you’d like to see improved next.
